My career to date has been all about young people, informal education, youth work, strategy, leadership and community. I spent two years as a youth movement worker right at the "coalface"; then ten years at UJIA, the UK Jewish community's leading informal education organisation, culminating in 3.5 years as Director of Strategy; and now I am Chief Executive of Unitas (Barnet Youth Zone). I value honesty, integrity, person-centred decision-making, strategic thinking, accountability and a touch of levity and humour. I'm always happy to connect to others professionally and am constantly looking to learn and develop. I also strongly support efforts to mentor and otherwise upskill and give opportunities to more junior members of staff or volunteers - it is only through a constant pipeline that new leadership can emerge.Outside of work, I love reading, watching sport, walking, travel, history and a wee dram of single malt whisky. I'm also the Chair of the Trustee Board of KeshetUK, am a Trustee of the Jewish Youth Fund, and a volunteer for Limmud.

We provide "somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to" for young people across (and beyond) North London, with activities after school, at the weekends and during school holidays. I lead the staff team, am directly accountable to the Chairman and the other Trustees, am an ambassador for the organisation to all of our stakeholders and in general am the "here" where "the buck stops"

RejuvenationMyself May 2021 - Aug 2021After 12 years of working without a substantive break, I decided to give myself the gift of 14 weeks without full-time work after leaving UJIA. I spent time with friends and family, took a couple of UK trips, read voraciously and found rejuvenation of body and soul before starting my next role. I also did some one-off educational sessions, and undertook a substantive piece of consultancy work for the Jewish Leadership Council.

Director Of StrategyUjia Sep 2017 - Apr 2021London, England, GbI was the first Director of Strategy of UJIA. In addition to having overall responsibility for the delivery, development and direction of UJIA's Israel engagement work in the UK, I also led a strategic organisational transformation after a trustee review. I oversaw, directly or indirectly, over 20 staff and a £4m budget. I was also a member of the Senior Executive, reported directly to the Chief Executive and sit on the Trustee Board. -
Head Of Israel EngagementUjia Nov 2014 - Sep 2017London, England, GbContinuing my work as Israel Engagement Educator, this promotion further enhanced my responsibilities within both strategic and day-to-day programmatic educational work with regards to Israel Engagement. In addition to my work within UJIA and with our partners (outlined below), I was also involved in international Israel Engagement programming networks, was published within the relevant literature, taught at Masters level about Israel Educational paradigms and programmes and was a frequent collaborator in and contributor to the professional and lay international conversation around Israel Engagement amongst Diaspora Jews.I also had line-management responsibilities within UJIA, including supervision, performance monitoring and management, appraisal and (thankfully rarely) disciplinary proceedings.

Israel Engagement EducatorUjia Sep 2013 - Nov 2014London, England, GbI worked both within UJIA and with its many partner organisations to plan and deliver training and programming to improve the quality and nuance of educational conversation about Israel within the British Jewish community. I was the lead professional responsible for training the 150+ British and Israeli youth leaders who take 1200+ young people to Israel each summer on Tour; and in addition I worked with a range of organisations to develop a multilayered and integrated set of opportunities for when the young people return. I also worked with a range of organisations to improve their leadership training and educational programming. Within this role, I also coordinated a forum of senior educators from across the community, was regularly asked to contribute to conferences, panels, events etc and sat on a number of advisory boards to develop Israel engagement strategies for other organisations.

Complex administration, multifaceted stakeholder management and relationship development and high-level strategy and consultancy work also undertaken within this role.

Movement WorkerLjy-Netzer Jul 2009 - Sep 2011I managed, as part of a small team of professional youth workers, a major youth activities provider, with a budget of £350,000 and over 300 active members. I led, or co-led, on large projects, including residential summer camps, educational tours abroad, large-scale educational and training events and £10k+ grant applications. Responsible for all aspects of these projects (initiation, strategy, planning, budgeting, staffing selection and training, mentoring of youth workers, day-to-day operations and evaluation).
