Sr Project Manager for the Seattle Structural Genomics Center for Infectious Disease, through a NIH-NIAID contract awarded to the Center for Infectious Disease Research.Fostering internal/external communications, managing proposals to the project by the scientific community, tracking targets in the structural genomics pipeline, interfacing between database users and developers, liaison for all subcontracting site mangers, preparing progress reports and other deliverables documentation, developing and successfully managing multi-million dollar project budgets, fostering strategic change, planning and conducting consortium and programmatic meetings, liaison between bioinformatics group and pipeline team to plan, develop, test and release data analysis and tracking tools.

Directed ten research scientists and engineers distributed over three groups (genotyping, fosmid technology and library construction; production and R&D activities). Evaluated new technologies. Maintained activities within the budget framework. Successfully reduced production costs. Responsible for pricing agreements with suppliers. Developed and implemented standardized lab procedures and QC measures for production. Conferred regularly with computational biologists to design and implement bioinformatics support plans and timelines.

Led transfer of existing and new GenoVision products to Qiagen. Performed product manager tasks for select product lines during integration process. Led development and launch of new products for automated DNA isolation from blood and a range of non-blood sample types for the clinical market. Received 2003 Qiagen best R&D project award. Played a key role in successfully integrating the Oslo-based research and production units into Qiagen. Main communicator between R&D and marketing departments. Oversaw forecasting and quality control of supplier materials. Responsible for budget to integrate GenoVision products. Managed a working group consisting of three senior scientists, two scientists and three engineers. Travels included instrument installations, service, repair and customer support as well as staff training in use of automated workstations.

Joined GenoVision at its start-up, built up lab facilities, recruited scientists to the company and contributed to the development of model systems used in the lab. For two years, was responsible for programming automated workstations and developing protocols for solid-phase nucleic acid isolation. Supported grant writing and was project lead for private and government funded projects. Developed basic protocols into robust, reliable and well documented applications. Supported customer product testing and integration of customer feedback into future applications. Directly responsible for one technician and one research scientist. Contributed significantly to writing two successful grant applications. Performed budget analyses and reporting, planned project time-lines.
