About Robin Rees

I am the Publisher of Fine Art and Science books in 3-D for Sir Brian May's London Stereoscopic Company, and an Independent Producer of illustrated science titles. My film, with due for release December 2023, is called 'Patrick Moore in the Sun' and is a tribute to Sir Patrick shot during the transit of Venus in 2004 in his garden amongst his friends.I was Sir Patrick's publisher, and coeditor of his 'Data Book of Astronomy' for Cambridge University Press. Our first collaboration with Sir Brian May was a bestseller: 'Bang! The Complete History of the Universe'.In 2013 I produced the first book for Brian May's independent London Stereoscopic (LSC) Company: 'Diableries', which was a cult success. 'Poor Man's Picture Gallery' followed in 2014, and accompanied an exhibition of Brian's stereos at the Tate Gallery. Then, in 2016 we published an extraordinary book on the strange fashion for 'Crinolines' alongside an exhibition at the V and A museum. In 2017 we published 'Queen in 3-D', a book of Brian May's personal stereo photographs of Freddie and the band, which he began taking in the seventies, and continues today with Adam Lambert as front man. It is as enlightening and extraordinary for readers who wonder how motivation works at the highest level as it is for Queen fans. Available in German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Italian, Czech, Romanian, and French, we constantly keep it up to date as Queen continue to explode from the pantheon of rock and storm the world's greatest global arenas. We released Mission Moon 3-D in September 2019, celebrating 50 years since Apollo 11. It was an honour that legendary Apollo 16 astronaut Charlie Duke wrote a Foreword for us.In September 2020 we launched 'Cosmic Clouds in 3-D' with 3-D images of the nebulae that pepper the night skies by Finnish genius artist J-P Metsavainio. 2021 saw the publication of our essential history of stereo photography: Stereography: the Dawn of 3-D and the release of Queen in 3-D in paperback, taking us to over 30 different printings in 10 languages. In 2023, with NASA, we published 'Bennu: Anatomy of an Asteroid' ahead of the return to Earth of a sample of material lifted from the surface of the asteroid bennu by the sensational OSIRIS-Rex mission. This material is currently being scrutinised for clues to the origins of the Solar System and life itself. Our focus in late 2023 is on a book 'Galaxies in 3-D' by the eminent Professor Derek Ward Thompson, with stereos by J-P Metsavainio. Sir Brian is, as ever, creatively engaged with this topic so close to his astronomy roots.
