Robin Tan has more than 20 years of work experience in several famouse international companies after he was graduated from North Eastern University in 1993. On the career journey, he accumulated vast knowledge on mechanical engineering and electrical engineering, focus on reliability qualification. He helped Huawei build an effective reliability qualification system, which reduced failure rate of HDDs from 17% to below 0.5%. This achievement was far better than that of Huawei’s competitiors, and got highly appreciation from customers. Robin was known by engineers as “reliability and mechanical expert” as he provided lots of solutions and suggestions on products realization, including mechanical design, thermal design, and reliability risk evaluation. He published many papers and share his experience both on “Huawei expert lecture hall” and “Huawei University”. Robin is an innovative employee. He inventived a kind of “still air chamber” when he was young as a reliability engineer in Mitac, this invention help product to get a more real environment for thermal testing. And he even invented a robot to simplify life testing of components when he acted as a mechanical engineer in Midea. Now Robin is acting as quality chief engineer and reliability director in Chint. This is a new chanllenge to him as Solar Energy products survives in a harsher environment with much higher voltage. He led the team develop “explosion testing” to simulate field disaster failure, which provided solid data for the effectiveness of design improvement. And he introduced “strain testing” from previous experience to evaluate risk of film capacitors’ crack issue on manufacturing line, which decrease board failure during manufacturing. As a chie technical expert, he knows what products need for reliability, not just follow standards and “test pass”, he can help project success with low field failure rate by building the entire life cycle system. Having taken ODM engagement and worked with suppliers for many years, he also has rich experience on component failure mechanism and manufacturing process. And as he has taken roles of mechanical R&D, head of reliability an EMC team, he knows development process well with knowledge of EMC/EMI design, thermal design, reliability design, Green requirement, etc. Through the unity of the team and cultivate talents, Robin leads his team to help product success and got respect from engineers in the company he served for. To his colleagues, Robin is a hard working man with serious attitude, and technology oriented leader.
