I am passionate about people and how they develop skills. As a teacher, I work with high school aged students who work on both acting in plays and developing their own work. I encourage the students to take risks and think outside the box in order to be more emotionally connected in their everyday lives. I'm not here to train actors or playwrights; I'm here to use those skills to help these students achieve confidence and innovation and thus apply it to whatever it is they choose to do in life. The personal experience outweighs the aesthetic outcome of their work, but I encourage them to take pride in it. I also write plays and work as a dramaturg. My primary interest and inspiration stems from social issues, particularly the state of manhood and wrestling with its systematic privileges; this idea breaks down into themes of feminism and institutions. That being said, I find that comedy is effective in executing these issues and want to present the issues in an entertaining manner. It is my belief that laughter and lesson are not mutually exclusive. I also work in child care. Children are always a source of wonder to me, as I learn more from them than they do me. I've been taking care of infants since an early age and was one of the most sought after nannies and sitters in my hometown. Although I have taken a break from it, I recently became reacquainted with the work and it was a therapeutic and rewarding experience.
