I am leading a scrum of developers both employees and consultants delivering a new Power Bi platform while sunsetting an old business objects platform.

At Wates I have been solely responsible for all Business Intelligence systems including Business Objects, Data Services, SQL Server Data Warehouse and SAP BPC. I have delivered several reporting solutions for cloud based and on-premise applications including designing warehouses and delivering the reporting element for a £13 million contract with Birmingham City Council. These implementations have been either standalone developments or delivered as part of a larger project team.Wates has recently acquired several businesses consequently the reporting and data landscape has become fragmented and complex. I have been working with the Enterprise Architecture function and Deloitte to firstly develop a strategy for data within Wates. The strategy is to create a single platform for data in Wates that is the trusted source for information. Working with the business and Deloitte I worked to produce a data model for Wates. The next I have worked to create a data platform, we selected the Microsoft technology stack to create a data lake architecture. I have been working with a project team and a delivery partner on the platform and we have rolled out the first phase of the project. The platform is being supported by the delivery partner and I have been working with the partner and the internal service desk to ensure the users and platform is supported efficiently.Another issue that Wates faced was the integration between the various applications in the estate, previously this was achieved with a point to point approach. This was seen by myself as an unsustainable approach when it was proposed to integrate Concur in this way. I proposed and worked with a project team to develop an integration platform based on SSIS.

At Bunzl I was responsible for the end to end process of the BI function from server specification to ETL/report development and all steps in between. At Bunzl I managed several Data Warehouses with fact tables in the 10s to 100s of millions of rows.Bunzl is predominantly a Business Objects customer with somewhere in the region of 4000 reports (mainly Webi and Deski), 2000 users and 150 universes. At Bunzl upgraded Business Objects from V5 and a 3rd party distribution tool to XI R3 and then to R4. This involved rationalising reports and schedules then moving/converting them into the new environments. I also ran a number of training sessions to familiarise staff with the new versions of the product. I also worked on a project to model the businesses profitability at a line level using an in memory column store database. I liaised closely with the various finance departments with the objective of giving them a P&L report that can been filtered for any combination of Customer/Product. I implemented the in memory tool Qlikview as a reporting tool in two areas of the business. Designing data models report layout and functionality.I was involved in the integration of several newly acquired businesses into Bunzl systems and I have written new data warehouses from the ground up based on Kimball methodology in both SQL Server and Informix. I have previously upgraded the Informix database to new hardware and new versions of the software. In doing so I migrated the servers to a virtualised platform. I have developed many suites of reports from simple daily lists to complex KPI reporting.

At HSBC Insurance Brokers my responsibilities included supporting a large suite of legacy reports, developing and amending reports as well as managing my own larger projects, one of which involves satisfying the requirements of the Financial Services Authority. Part of my role was to assist in the design and documentation of a data warehouse. I was also involved in the implementation of a work management system with the aim to improve customer satisfaction and improve the documentation that accompanies reports.

In this role I used Business Objects V5 and manipulated data using Excel and Access. I also created many business objects reports. I then began to develop my skills in SQL and Crystal Reports. I was tasked with recruiting, training and managing a team of crystal report developers. Responsibilities also include maintaining the exiting suite of reports. I was also responsible for the ongoing development of the reporting databases.
