*The iconic Heinz Tomato Ketchup & Salad Cream bottles, peel open seals, Top Down sauce bottles and Fridge Pack Beanz. These are a few of the projects whose packaging I am proud to have been responsible for during my career at H.J. Heinz in Europe.Rather surprising for a Metals degree, but I did start in QA with tinplate, cans and end making for the food industry.*My knowledge and understanding of packaging performance stretches from cans and easy open ends in the past to induction and conduction sealing systems for flexibles in the present. In between there have been opportunities to develop expertise in Twist Off Cap technology, glass and plastic barrier bottle design, peelable seals and fully printed shrink sleeves. *Complementing the developmental role is the time spent investigating problems and resolving quality issues; not a desirable activity but one which provides the real insights into how packaging works and what the true levers are for good operating windows .*I am lost without a spreadsheet, which has enabled statistical analysis of machine performance through (sometimes) painstaking collection of data from measurements; to define process capability and improvement opportunities.*Completing the skill set for NPD is my knowledge of the CAPE pallet software and the artwork management process. So I am a packaging specialist, with a history of developing rigid container solutions for the retail food industry, taking it from the marketing brief to the very first delivery; but with a fundamental understanding of packaging and materials; in particular sealing, dispensing caps and rigid plastic containers for food.
