Robin set up Searchlighter towards the end of 2008. Apart from being the Director, Robin works at Searchlighter chiefly on monitoring and evaluation in the context of project implementation on behalf of the beneficiaries. The work takes place in a collaborative and international context, broadly focusing on social cohesion, cultural innovation, economic development and fundamental rights.
Since December 2012, Robin has been leading the Monitoring and Evaluation process in IOR, a project looking to address issues faced by young people between 10–17 years so that young people can engage with social media in safety and choose to engage for positive rather than negative social development. In 2013, Robin will also be leading Searchlighter's work as the UK Partner in a project funded by the Human Resources Development Operational Programme in Bulgaria. This will support the Bulgarian Government in learning good practice and effective policy concerning labour-market access for disadvantaged groups and securing their future employment.Robin recently led the work package covering Monitoring and Evaluation in RENOVA, a two-year Transfer of Innovation project to enhance training facilities that enable experienced nursing staff to acquire skills and qualifications for their professional development into health management. This project was carried out according to labour market needs as set out in the ‘New Skills for New Jobs’ directive, and Robin monitored its capacity to deliver on this European policy.Past work has also included a project for the Research Information Network (RIN), founded on stakeholders in scholarly communications reflecting on and adhering to a set of common principles set out in a report published by RIN in 2007.

Robin oversees the implementation of the education and training strategy for the network of volunteers throughout the South West. The strategy seeks to present the case for supplying, procuring and purchasing products that carry the Fairtrade mark, the graphical stamp acting as a guarantee that the producers receive a fair price for that production, secures a sustainable standard of living for their families and provides for investment in collective community assets to support community sustainability. The primary focus of the education and training strategy is on the Ambassador Programme, which is primarily fulfilled through face-to-face classroom activities, but is due to extend increasingly into a range of e-Learning activities.

Robin developed his project management skills from 2005–2008 when he was working with a publisher and information-repository software-services provider based in the United States. He was developing their strategies for promoting Digital Commons repository platform in UK and Ireland while consulting on their approach to the EMEA region. He communicated regularly with Directors and Vice-Presidents concerning European developments, appropriate priorities, strategic process, and the applications for software sought by the libraries. He fulfilled market research projects for the company’s software services for Universities within the European sector, continuing to develop the strategy through direct communications with libraries, and the presenting the company at UK-based conferences.He enhanced the company's profile in Europe over a three-year period, commissioning new journal titles to incorporate European research interests and bringing editors based at European institutions to the title list. Robin also expanded the database to ensure a comprehensive list of European academic institutions and current library contacts, going on to develop a European strategy through direct communications with libraries as well as representing the company at conferences.

As a company director at an established academic publisher in the arts and humanities, Robin deepened the business purpose of the journals publishing programme as an engine for growth. He specifically worked on strengthening partnerships, in this case with editors and editorial boards to promote the journals. At this time, he also developed a detailed editorial, production and marketing procedure with his staff, and enacted his own business strategy for journals for them to be an effective online product for institutions.

Robin developed book and journal publishing opportunities, seeking out appropriate professional organisations and scholarly associations for acquisition of journals and books. He assessed the editorial quality of book submissions and planned journal outlines, ensuring effective financial management of each book and journal. At this time, he also researched marketing and promotional strategies that applied electronic technology when this field was changing particularly swiftly, and negotiated agreements with external suppliers and freelancers.

In the first stage of his work with Intellect, Robin Implemented the schedule by selecting and negotiating agreements with suppliers and freelancers as well as copy editing submitted manuscripts as required and proofreading before submission to the printer. Robin also applied his training to ensure quality control on all company product.
