While interning at Travelers this summer, I developed a comprehensive understanding of Travelers underwriting process, underwriting appetite, and business management practices. Job-shadowed various roles in departments such as: Oil & Gas, Construction, Commercial Accounts, Excess, Select, Marketing, Business Development Functions, Risk Control, and Claims. Strengthened my academic understanding of the commercial insurance industry through Traveler’s online Business Insurance University, webinars, and articles. Took initiative to enroll in additional courses and used research to broaden understanding of insurance topics. Analyzed and manipulated large amounts of data to identify trends, update statistics, measure performance, and created excel workbooks to help managers measure productivity in relevance to numerous variables and increase efficiency. I also became a member of Traveler’s Young Professional Diversity Network, which exposed me to educational seminars such as a Personal Branding Course & other networking events. Attended Travelers Intern Symposium in Hartford, Connecticut along with 200+ interns where we got to network with other interns and attend seminars on topics such as: Bond SI Cyber, Claims, and Diversity.

Working with this company gave me insight into the independent agency side of the insurance industry. I was able to learn the in's and out's of how a small business is run and the responsibility that includes. Also, I learned how to most efficiently use the software they used to keep important client documents confidential and updated. I was able to shadow employees on how cold calls are done, as well as learn how to speak with a client about their policies. Another great experience I had with Harry Levine Insurance was being able to attend the Orlando, FL FAIA Insurance Convention which allowed me to network and gain more insight on the insurance industry.

I was able to obtain this position because I came highly recommended from my high school Law Magnet Program. While working at this law firm I learned the importance of working as a team alongside attorneys, administrative assistants and fellow legal assistants. I was asked to create mandatory disclosure portfolios containing client data and case documents. I helped organized the firm's I.T. system containing client information as well as helped prepare for trials by organizing exhibits and other key evidence. I also helped research statutes, decisions, legal articles and codes. I was entrusted with confidential client information. I continue to work with this firm on holidays and school breaks.
