Robin Bruns is a conservation professional and GIS specialist. Her interests include trail management, landscape-scale collaboration, and outdoor recreation. Her expertise is based on community partnerships, data-driven decision making, and using maps as a tool for planning.Upon graduating from high school, Robin started her career as a member of a conservation crew working to improve trails on public lands in the High Rockies of Colorado. After completing college, Robin served as an AmeriCorps member in Pocahontas County, West Virginia with the Appalachian Forest National Heritage Area. As a partner to the Monongahela National Forest, she was the technical lead on a team that established the state's first Ride Center, a designation awarded by the International Mountain Bicycling Association. Robin has held various positions with land management agencies, conservation corps, and regional agencies. At the US Fish & Wildlife Service, she served as the Team Leader for the National Trail Inventory Program, charged with launching the third cycle of the project to map and assess trails across the agency’s lands. She has coordinated federal and state grants for trail construction and maintenance projects throughout Central Appalachia for Conservation Legacy. At the Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission, she organized a community development program to support outdoor recreation based economic development in the Alleghany Highlands of Virginia. She has also been a bike shop manager, ski technician, raft guide, and canoe instructor.Robin holds a Bachelor's Degree in Geology from Occidental College, the Liberal Arts College in Los Angeles, California. She earned a Graduate certificate in Digital Mapping from the University of Kentucky and has been enrolled in the Masters in the Outdoor Recreation Economy program at University of Colorado Boulder. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Blue Ridge Off-Road Cyclists and is a volunteer with the West Virginia Cave Conservancy. Robin has biked across the United States and has hiked the entirety of the Appalachian Trail and Colorado Trail.
