Academic Tutor

Hackney, London

I was the academic tutor for the homework club of local children's charity Hackney Young Carers, which is part of Action For Children. 'Young Carers' are children who have to take on adult roles in their families from a young age due to death, serious long term illness and/or imprisonment of parents. In practice this required a beautiful combination of crowd control, managing 2-5 volunteers and supporting 7-15 kids aged 6-18 to complete their homework. Some of these kids you might conservatively describe as 'quite lively' and reluctant to do their homework.

Sep 2007 - Nov 2017

Ukulele And Guitar Tutor

Robin'S School Of Music

Hackney, London

I taught ukulele, guitar and bass guitar to a delightful cross section of Londoners, aged 5 to 67.I also ran workshops for kids, adults and families, sometimes all at the same time. Clients included The Duke Of Uke, The Barbican, The Pleasance Theatre and The Glastonbury Festival.

Community Food Growing Activist

Various Local Housing Estates, City Farms And Schools.

I set up food growing spaces and ran growing clubs on housing estates and a school in Hackney, working with residents aged 4-70. My projects gained financial support from the NHS, Hackney Council, Ground Work and Mayor Of London. The first site I set up on Somerford Grove estate won 'Best Edible Estate' in the Mayor of London's Capital Growth awards. This led to consultancy work for Hackney Council who asked me to report on best practice and potential for replicating the project's success. This report was used as supporting evidence for a successful major lottery bid by the Shoreditch Trust.

Mar 2009 - Sep 2009

Operations Manager

London, United Kingdom

I was one of the first employees of this electric car start-up company run by Stephen Cain, Britain's youngest FTSE100 CEO. Within a year I was operations manager, managing twelve staff and engineers, a fleet of 40-80 cars and looking after sales, deliveries and after-care for our customers. I lobbied local and nation government including test drives for MPs, Lords and key officers at the Palace of Westminster and supporting an early day motion in Parliament.
