It is my belief that all individuals have a self-actualizing tendency within themselves, an ability to be happy and successful. Concerns arise when what is inwardly believed and what is outwardly expressed do not match. My counseling is based on the Humanistic approaches to counseling, primarily Person-Centered counseling. In person-centered counseling, it is believed that change can occur when two persons communicate clearly. The first person, the client, is vulnerable or anxious. The second person, the counselor, is ready to process that anxiety without becoming anxious in return. It is the counselor’s job to express unconditional positive regard for the client. The counselor expresses understanding of the client’s point of view and the client is certain that his experiences are understood. From this point, progress can occur! I am trained in Child-Centered Play Therapy, and Humanist Sandtray Therapy and work to incorporate both modalities appropriately into treatment with individuals. I have my own mobile Play Therapy Kit and am currently putting together my own mobile Sandtray kit. In 2018 I graduated from Tarleton State University, magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s of Science in Professional & Relational Communications with a Minor in Business. In 2022 I graduated from Tarelton suma cum laude with a Masters Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. While in the graduate program I continued to develop my passions through being an officer for the Tarleton chapter of Chi Sigma Iota counseling honors society. As an officer I co-found a mentorship program that pairs current students in the counseling program with incoming graduate students. While in my internship courses I had the honor of working with clients at the Excel Center in Arlington, the Johnson County Family Crisis Center, and the Counseling Research, Assessment, and Practice Lab at Richard J Allie middle School and Oakmont Elementary School. I have completed all necessary paperwork for my LPC-Associate license, and working towards competing requirements for being a Registered Play Therapist and Humanistic Sandtray Therapist.
