Projects include streamside reforestation, instream habitat enhancements, fish passage restoration, community outreach, and water quality, temperature, bacteria, mussel, salmon spawning, photopoint, macroinvertebrate, and project-effectiveness monitoring.- Managed complex habitat enhancement projects. Coordinated and lead work parties with volunteers and school groups.- Wrote grant proposals, technical memos, and project reports. Successfully raised over $1,000,000 in grant funds for watershed enhancement. - Led the collaborative development of a 2015-25 Watershed Restoration Action Plan. In 2011, mapped and compiled case studies for 180 restoration projects in the watershed (jcwc.conservationregistry.org), published a State of the Watershed report and Riparian Reforestation Strategy in 2012, coordinated watershed action planning workshops attended by 20 watershed councils in 2013, and completed a basin-wide fish passage assessment and prioritization for 273 culverts in 2014. - Gave presentations and wrote articles and press releases about the science of watershed restoration, the excellent inter-jurisdictional coordination in our watershed, and project results for the public, our Board, and at regional and national-level conferences, and the keynote address at the May 2015, 20th Anniversary Johnson Creek Celebration.- Organized first annual Johnson Creek Science Symposium at Reed College to share current research among academic, jurisdictional and other non-profit, citizen, and agency partners. Fish Passage TechnicianUnderwood Conservation District Apr 2009 - Dec 2009White Salmon, WaWalked and rafted all the tributaries to and mainstem White Salmon River to assess fish passage and survey habitat quality. This was done to identify which upstream barriers should be first prioritized for removal as anadromous fish moved back into the basin following the Condit Dam removal.Great fun!

I never thought I'd get paid for hiking and counting huckleberry leaves, among other great adventures! In the fall and winter, back at the S.O. in Petersburg, I dug into GIS. I attributed then modelled salmonid presence and habitat in rivers throughout the Tongass National Forest in order to prioritize fish barrier (i.e. culvert) removal projects. By using Network Analyst, I could show exactly how much habitat would be opened by fixing specific culverts. The following summer and fall, I maintained an array of pit-tag antennae (read lugged giant batteries in on a trail I built and maintained) and captured and pit-tagged salmonids in Hobo Creek on Mitkof Island. The biggest payoffs were the extensive beds of golden chanterelles, bagfuls! Show less -

Concurrently, I took a great honors technical writing course at NMSU. By combining the two and working with environmental engineering prof Walter Zachritz, I combed the libraries, met with Bureau of Reclamation, Dept of Game & Fish, and other agency folks, took soil samples to map a wetland along an agricultural return ditch to the Rio, developed preliminary designs for a cottonwood gallery restoration project and a naturalistic treatment wetland to remove sediment and chemicals from the runoff, and submitted and was awarded an EPA 319 grant to support the Southwest Environmental Center in further developing the "Picacho Bosque Wetlands.
