Robin Kniech served three terms as an At-large Denver City Council Member. She was the first out LGBTQ member elected to Council in 2011, and the longest serving out LGBTQ officeholder in the state of Colorado when she completed her service in 2023. Robin delivered bold outcomes in the areas of access to and funding for affordable housing, good paying jobs, sustainability, inclusivity and equity. She shepherded Colorado’s first and only local minimum wage, the highest real minimum wage in the nation when compared to cost of living, which delivered raises to hundreds of thousands of workers. She spearheaded the passage of two crucial, permanent funding streams for affordable housing and reducing homelessness across Denver which, by 2030, will provide nearly a billion dollars for these efforts. Robin also partners across jurisdictions and with state legislators to create impacts and expand opportunity in communities across Colorado. Nationally, she served on the board of Local Progress, a network of local elected officials committed to economic and racial justice, and is a trainer with the Progressive Governance Academy. She is a frequent guest lecturer and public speaker on topics ranging from equity in land use to affordable housing to women in leadership. Robin is an inactive member of the Colorado Bar with more than fifteen years of additional non-profit, community/coalition organizing, policy, and advocacy experience prior to her election to public office. She recently joined the University of Colorado Denver as the Program Director of the New Directions Graduate Program in Politics and Policy.
