National orthopedic society led by medical students, dedicated to providing equitable access to resources and guidance for navigating a career in orthopedic surgery.The DEIA (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility) Committee in the Medical Student Orthopaedic Society (MSOS) is dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment by encouraging participation from underrepresented groups and advocating for fair treatment and opportunities for all members. We provide resources, mentorship, and support to help underrepresented medical students navigate their careers in orthopaedics while promoting policy changes and community engagement to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in healthcare.

Undergraduate Research Assistant for Dr. Emerson Keith Bowers, Ph.D.Completed molecular determination of offspring sex, behavioral assays, microscopy, and data analyses of both the prothonotary warbler (Protonotaria citrea) and the Carolina wren (Thryothorus ludovicianus). Extracted DNA from avian blood samples, amplified DNA using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technology, ran agarose gel electrophoresis to determine offspring sex. Quantified begging calls of offspring from both species using RavenPro software.

Observed four different clinical rotation teaching teams that work in different units at the hospital. Each teaching team consists of one attending (lead) physician, two supervising residents, three interns (first-year residents), a junior intern (third-year medical school student), and 2-3 medical school students.

UTHSC Tennessee Institute for Pre-Professionals (TIP) Program.Track 1 Alumni from the TIP program. TIP Track 1 is a seven‐week residential program designed to increase the representation and active participation of underrepresented groups in the healthcare field. TIP provides a unique opportunity for these students to become equipped for what we hope is eventual matriculation into one of the programs at UTHSC. TIP is for residents of Tennessee who wish to pursue a career in dentistry, medicine, nursing, occupational and/or physical therapy, pharmacy, or other health professions.
