On the one hand, I am handling patent portfolios with in excess of 500 pending patent applications worldwide. Clients appreciate my ability to quickly understand and capture their invention in comprehensive, yet legally sound patent drafts. My philosophy regarding patent applications is that the first filing should be as complete as possible. This requires a close collaboration with the inventor(s) and sufficient time for review. Ultimately, my drafts are on average between 20 and 30 pages, containing an exhaustive description covering all possible embodiments to ensure a broad scope of protection, while also maintaining sufficient basis for amendments during prosecution of the patent application. This results in approximately 77% of the patent applications having sufficient potential and being continued in the form of foreign filings.

A European Patent Attorney is an attorney who has the specialized qualifications necessary for representing clients before the EPO (European Patent Office) in obtaining patents and acting in all matters and procedures relating to patent law and practice, such as filing an opposition. A European Patent Attorney has passed the European qualifying examination (EQE), has a university degree in science or technology and has spent at least three years working in the European patent profession, under the supervision of an appropriately qualified individual.

What started out as a part-time job at the local DIY (HUBO), quickly turned into a challenging sales and management opportunity when the local DIY was taken over by an entrepreneur with plans for an interior design store. From 2002 to 2009, the enterprise grew quickly to 5 stores, and ultimately became a franchise formula in The Netherlands and Belgium. During my part-time employment, I was store manager of several locations, until I graduated from University and started looking for a full-time employment in my area of expertise.

Fluor is one of the world’s leading publicly traded engineering, procurement, construction, maintenance, and project management companies.I worked at Fluor during the holiday seasons as Junior Draughtsman, preparing and reviewing technical drawings for various petrochemical plants. This was a great opportunity to experience a corporate working environment and to get familiar with engineering practice early in my career.
