Dr. Ortiz is an innovative, results-oriented physician executive. He is a board-certified medical oncologist and hematologist with a deep understanding of the cancer healthcare landscape. He serves as Senior National Medical Director, Oncology Clinical Programs for Cigna Healthcare (#13 Fortune 500 with over $140B in annual revenue). In this role he functions as a Senior Physician Lead to drive the development of a multifaceted, multi-year clinical and business oncology strategy. His mission is to improve the health, well-being, and peace of mind of those with cancer. Dr. Ortiz attended college at Cornell University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Neurobiology and Behavior. He attended medical school at the University of Pennsylvania. He was awarded the Measey Foundation Scholarship for Academic Excellence which provided a full tuition scholarship for four years of medical school.Dr. Ortiz completed his internal medicine residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. During his internal medicine residency he was awarded the Excellence in Teaching award. His research interests also led to a publication in the journal Bone Marrow Transplantation. After residency he attended the University of Illinois at Chicago where he pursued fellowship training in medical oncology and hematology. During fellowship training his research project regarding head and neck cancer was presented at the national ASCO conference. He was also recognized as the top-performing oncology fellow on the American Society of Oncology in-service exam.Following fellowship training Dr. Ortiz practiced medical oncology and hematology for nine years with Northwest Oncology & Hematology (NWOH). In 2010 he became an equity partner with NWOH.Dr. Ortiz began his career in health care management by joining AIM specialty health in 2017 as a Senior Oncology Physician Advisor. While at AIM he was an instrumental part of their Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T-cell program and Genetic Testing Solution. He also participated in AIM's Physician Advisory Panel which developed oncology treatment pathways to support Anthem's Cancer Care Quality Program.In 2018 Dr. Ortiz joined UnitedHealth Group | Optum as their National Oncology Medical Director. As an organizational leader he supported high quality, accessible and evidence-based oncology care. Dr. Ortiz was an active member of UnitedHealthcare's Pharmacy & Therapeutics Oncology Advisory Committee which developed Cancer Treatment Pathways that impacted 50 million+ individuals.
