Aspire Capital Partners manage an investment fund focusing on open-market and direct equity investments in a range of industries, specialising in making informed investments in the healthcare and biotechnology sectors. As part of a small team, I performed diligence on small- to mid-market cap size, publicly traded biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies to identify actionable investment opportunities. In this role I examined pre-clinical and clinical data, company financials, stock trends, market competition and upcoming stock catalysts in order to present investment theses to company analysts.

Time spent writing a manuscript based on the findings of my Ph.D. studies at the University of Manchester, as well as contributing to review articles. Also contributed to the production of a grant application through writing various sections of the grant application as well as carrying out preliminary experimental work to support the grant. In addition, I supported the induction of several new members of the lab, teaching the commonly used techniques within the lab.

I studied for an Alzheimer's Research UK funded PhD in cellular and molecular biology working under supervision of Professor Nigel Hooper at the University of Manchester. The aim of my research was to further understanding of the biological roles and processing of amyloid precursor protein in the progression of Alzheimer's disease. In my research I used various molecular biology techniques including PCR, ChIP and site-directed mutagenesis, alongside biochemical techniques such as Western blot, flow cytometry and immunofluorescence microscopy. The majority of my work was carried out in human cell lines (SH-SY5Y, NB7) but also involved working with human tissue samples.During my PhD I was involved in laboratory demonstrating for undergraduate students and one to one tuition of undergraduate project students. I have also worked widely in public engagement as a Leeds University post-graduate ambassador, working at the Leeds University 'Science discovery zone' with KS1 and KS2 children and helping at ARUK run public events. I was also responsible for public engagement from our lab through the initiation and maintenance of our social media presence, updating on publications and events in our lab and in the wider neurodegeneration field and through an Alzheimer's society funded 'Engaging with Dementia' initiative.

Responsible for planning and carrying out research to meet targets set by the research project manager. After determining the current research needs, I was responsible for organising and implementing my own plans, to produce high quality data. I was responsible for ensuring meticulous attention to detail in the set up of each experiment and the recording of all data. I presented data to the students I was working with and also to the project manager and discussed any problems and how to further the research. When data collected seemed incompatible I would investigate potential causes and develop methods to overcome the difficulties. As a member of the research team I was responsible for ensuring my area of the laboratory was kept tidy and that it complied with all health and safety measures in particular when working with potentially harmful materials and potentially dangerous insects. I also ensured that laboratory stocks and logs were maintained as necessary.
