Creating Java based tools to facilitate the company's mission of providing "Operations as a Service".

• Designed and implemented a Java web application for self-service email account creation. The application accesses Ellucian Colleague (an ERP used by colleges and universities) for student data, and writes to MySQL (an RDBMS), OpenLDAP and Active Directory. The user interface includes several pop-ups including a multi screen widget built using the Google Web Toolkit (GWT). Since passwords were stored in LDAP, many other applications accessed the server for user authentication.• Built tools in C# to talk to internal Windows Server services, especially Exchange. The services were SOAP based.• Designed and implemented a Java self-service password reset application that is likewise built using GWT, thus eliminating a great deal of staff time spent doing the reset manually. The user was verified by answering questions that the user specified when creating the account.• Developed an application that built, and updated nightly, a complete set of course email lists for every section of every course taught in any given semester. Each list contained the email addres of the instructor and every enrolled student. • Designed and implemented a Java tool to enable alumni to create a permanent linfield.edu forwarding email address. Their information (contained in a Java object) was serialized and written to a MySQL database as a large binary object (BLOB), and an email message containing a link was sent to the requester for verification of the address.• Built Java tools to nightly update the College's LDAP server with directory data from Ellucian Colleague.• Using directory data housed in LDAP, wrote a Java program to nightly build an up to date directory that includes all faculty, staff and students. The output is a downloadable PDF file. This replaced an annual directory that was manually built over the course of several weeks and then printed copies were distributed

• Senior Systems Administrator and Group Lead, Central Computing Facility. Supervised a staff of three Sun Solaris sysadmins and managed the central service computers for the NASA campus, including both standard services such as email, shell access, ftp, and web as well as three systems exclusively housing a number of SYBASE databases. • Argued for and purchased an enterprise grade centralized backup system. Oversaw the redesign of the main data center machine room. • Developed centralized tools for monitoring remote systems, centralized the collection of security data monitors such as tripwire. Automated many other manual administrative processes.

• Built a faculty appointments database using SPIRES, a Stanford proprietary mainframe hierarchical DBMS. In conjunction with the Office of Faculty Affairs, I defined the meta-data, including the logical structure of the data, developed tables, the various screens, and a number of reports.• Managed networking services for the Provost's Office, email and file sharing using both PC-NFS and CAP for Macintosh. Also built a faculty appointments database using SPIRES, a Stanford proprietary mainframe hierarchical DBMS. In conjunction with the Office of Faculty Affairs, I defined the meta-data, including the logical structure of the data, developed tables, the various screens, and a number of reports.
