Leadership role within our global team of 45 medical oncologists and hematologists responsible for medical monitoring and oncology clinical development strategies for our biotech, pharmaceutical, and academic customers.

ODDP is a yearly 3-day course in oncology drug development that has been held for 17 times between 2004 and 2021 in the Amsterdam area. The course has been attended by >400 drug development professionals, mostly from European biotech and small pharma companies. Between 2013 and 2021, I have served as co-organizer, co-chair, and presenter.

My key role was providing medical and scientific oversight for oncology clinical development programs in Europe. Also, I served as lead medical monitor to a broad range of clinical studies in oncology. In addition, I participated in customer consultations and bid-defenses as well as in project-specific and therapeutic area training to operational teams. Furthermore, I have provided regulatory consulting on oncology projects and acted as mentor and internal expert to our Oncology Business Unit staff.INC Research merged into Syneos Health in January 2018.

Life Sciences & Health was an innovation program aimed at promoting open innovation in pharmaceutical R&D by realizing Public-Private collaboration in drug discovery and development. I was responsible for providing coherence in scientific, financial, and IP affairs among five Public-Private consortia (with a total budget of 160 million Euro) and for implementing an optimal organizational framework for the future. The innovation program was part of Top Institute Pharma which merged into Lygature in 2015.

Responsible for early clinical development strategies in oncology as well as for their implementation by leading clinical development teams, managing CROs, and liaising with external medical opinion leaders. Key goals were to effectively integrate drug discovery with clinical development and to accomplish biomarker-driven Go/No-Go decisions in early clinical development in oncology. Co-chair of global review committee of clinical biomarker development plans.

Main responsibility was providing strategic direction and leading Proof of Concept teams in the areas of endocrinology, oncology, and anticoagulation. Designed clinical development programs up to Proof-of-Concept for eight innovative investigational drugs. Member of joint management committees supervising the collaborative development of antithrombotics with other (Japanese and French) pharma companies. Organon was acquired by Merck/MSD in November 2009.

I have lead global Phase IIB/III studies on the therapeutic use of recombinant human TSH (Thyrogen®) in thyroid cancer and have been driving discussions with EMA on the outcomes, resulting in two European label extensions of Thyrogen®. Also, I have managed a compassionate use program for Thyrogen® in metastatic thyroid cancer patients as well as numerous investigator-driven studies to explore novel indications for recombinant human TSH.

Over 30 (co)authorships in peer-reviewed journals, among which "PNAS", "Cell", "Nature", mainly on the role of DNA repair and tumor suppressor genes in skin cancer development.
