Portfolio: robkeil.comI’m an Associate Creative Director (Art Director) with experience across a wide variety of industries, both at ad agencies and in-house. My first paying job in advertising was at McCann-Erickson, where I worked on Wells Fargo Bank, Safeway and PG&E. Later I joined an agency focused on video gaming and sports, working on brands like LucasArts, Pac-Man, San Francisco Giants, and San Jose Sharks. I’ve created award-winning campaigns in nearly every medium for large and small clients. My favorite aspects of working in advertising are strategic thinking, collaboration, and executing an idea elegantly across multiple channels. I think of myself as an advertising person who has the skills of an art director. It's nice to create beautiful visuals, but ultimately the message must prompt action. Connecting a brand to its audience through some combination of logic, drama, or humor is fun and challenging. Employing this approach, I’ve reinvented several brands. For example, when the new home community Baker Ranch in Southern California needed a fresh approach, I completely changed the visual aesthetic of the brand and gave it a new voice. Over the next 4 years, I created banner ads, emails, print ads, collateral and videos, resulting in $1 billion in sales. The campaign won several awards, and Baker Ranch became one of the most successful communities in the region.Video is my favorite medium, and I’ve developed a deep skill set in this area. Ideating with a writer is my usual starting point. I’ve hired production companies and worked with talented directors and cinematographers. Post production is my specialty, so I often do video editing myself, including color correction and sound, bringing in experts as needed.Because technology and media are always changing, I'm always evolving. I led digital publishing initiatives at two agencies, allowing us to offer new services to our clients. And I’m leading a task force at my current agency to employ AI tools in the creative department. I seek out new challenges, whether it’s a new business pitch or presenting a new idea to an existing client.Fun things I’ve done in my spare time include publishing two books, making documentaries and teaching at Academy of Art College.
