I have been a Cadet Force Adult Volenteer within Surrey ACF For many years and have had several appointments in my ACF career. I have commanded detachments in Chertsey and I am currently responsible for Woking Detachment having completed a 3 year appointment to Company Sergeant Major. I hold the rank of Sergeant Major Instructor (SMI) Over my years I have been responsible for planning, organising and delivering training to cadets (aged 13-18) and to adult staff under my command. It is a very rewarding job. I have seen many cadets through the detachments and watched then develop into outstanding adults. I have gained various qualifications through my service to the ACF including range managment, weapons handling and instruction, First Aid, Archery leader, Clay Pigeon Saftey Officer, and mountain leader. Much of the leadership training I have received has aided me greatly in forging my career.

Currently responsible for managing installation projects of communication systems ranging from 10k to 100k. Working with leading uk companies and national organisations including Whitbread, Hilton, Compass Group, Knowlsey and St Helens NHS Trust, The Wellington Hospital to name a few. Systems range from bespoke conference room call buttons, paging systems, lone worker systems, DECT telephone systems, 2 way radio systems. I drive forward projects from pre sales assisting with all technical and practical aspects of the projects, through to planning, ensuring projects are run efficiently, safely and delivered to high standards which our customers have come to expect from us and I always follow all projects through to commissioning and handover.

I am currently responsible for the delivery of installation projects in a predominantly fire and security disciplined company. I work in a highly skilled team providing the technical expertise to the projects which the company are currently involved with. I am mainly based in the London area with a high concentration of work in Canary Wharf on large projects such as 25 Churchill Place and Crossrail. I am a Site Safety Supervisor SSTS and apply myself to make sure all works are carried out as well as possible, but also as safe as possible. The company operates in some business critical environments including large data storage centres and shopping mall and often have tight time constraints which are managed and delivered to.

I am currently responsible for the delivery of installation and service contracts providing the technical expertise to the contract managers across the department as a whole. I often work on business critical contracts and often have tight time constraints and limited resources. I work closely with our clients ensuring that timescales that are agreed can be achieved and then monitor the progress of via KPI’s to ensure a timely delivery. I am trained and practiced in all disciplines in the fire, security and communications industry and often provide a good bridge between the different engineering disciplines within the business.

I was responsible for installation contracts and delivery of complex integrated communication systems and life safety systems. My responsibilities include: Pre contract meetings with clients and end users. Close supervision and onsite assistance to operatives and sub-contractors, Cross department liaison to ensure contracts are delivered on time and within budget and to the relevant standards, Post installation commissioning and client/end user training. Typical contracts range from £10,000 - £80,000. The systems consisted of complex integrated communication systems and life safety systems including automatic fire detection, social alarms, CCTV and IP based systems.

I was responsible for assisting engineers and sub-contractors with specialist technical support on new RF based healthcare communications systems. I also provided training to clients and end users. I often commissioned systems and when required provided assistance to sales staff to perform onsite surveys and system design advice. I was often required to work in hospitals, mental health units and elderly care facilities.

I was responsible for providing communication solutions for the healthcare industry, predominantly hospitals and mental health units. We acquired a business called GD Engineering (Ilford) Ltd in my time at the company and I was responsible for the technical integration of their products within our business. My role was split between overseeing the light manufacture of equipment and the design and manufacture of often bespoke equipment for both new and existing customers. This lead to the company designing and launching a unique system for mental health units conforming to HTM2015. I undertook many projects in this diverse role and had the freedom within the small business to stretch my wings and take lead on many roles and initiatives.
