This will happen in the richest nations and the neediest. The consequences will be a worsening income distribution and missed opportunities to reduce GHG. The Mission is to develop solutions that are economically self-sustaining and can scale; ones that do not require ongoing subsidy or charity. To ensure the energy transition leaves no one behind and, in doing so, improve equity and inclusion and accelerate the speed to a low carbon world. The approach will focus on the impact and promise of electric vehicles as mobile batteries and distributed energy resources while looking broadly across multiple fields. Solutions will be put in the context of larger social and cultural drivers, the surrounding energy system, and electrification of transportation. These will be developed by working on real problems, with a strong grounding in the literature. Results will be made public in a variety of forums for all to refine and use.The effect of EVs on equity and inclusion will be like their impact on the grid: positive if managed well, bad if mismanaged. It can be the best of times or worst of times, but this depends on our will, brains, and creativity. Any decarbonization strategy should be a de facto environmental justice and social equity strategy. Show less
