Served on the board of a UK-based non-profit (Miraheze Ltd) for a couple of years during the pandemic. Wrote a web application to analyze past elections and theoretical future elections (called "abif web tool" or "awt"), as well as a command-line parser ("abiftool") to convert between published ballot formats. Volunteered at the local community college (CCSF) as a tutor for students learning Python, Java, C, and C++.

Managed the team responsible for over 50 petabytes of data storage at the Internet Archive. We ordered the hardware, received it, installed it, and kept it running. The team also wrote the PHP code to ensure the uploads were stored on the right hard drive and maintained the indices to ensure the files could be found.

* Hired, budgeted, and mentored Platform Engineering, defining the critical roles, and expanding the group of 6 staff and contractors into a department of 35 engineers in 8 time zones, * Hired supporting teams to handle security, stability, performance and architectural cleanliness of our site software, allowing critical staff to gracefully hand off responsibilities and ensuring the organization could robustly and sustainably fulfill group obligations. The teams developed and deployed many key software improvements including scripting via Lua (reducing maximum page rendering time by 83%) and migrated the site runtime to HHVM (reducing editing response times by 50%). * Ensured stability of legacy analytics during development of nascent analytics platform. * Created the Engineering Community team, hiring the leaders and liaisons to support our robust volunteer engineering efforts, ensuring a welcoming and inclusive environment. * Led tooling and process changes for a much more rapid, predictable and robust deployment cycle, transforming semi-annual outage-filled deployment epics into a smoother weekly routine.
