I work as a composite technician II doing satellite panel bonding. I have to read blue prints on Mylar and work off the work order instructions to bond the panels. I work with aluminum and carbon fiber face sheets. I know how to cut core, foam shoot and prepare fittings for panel bonding. I also do hand lay up with carbon fiber and fiber glass materials.

As an AFP operator, I operated an AFP CNC machine that consist of 7 axes and 32 spools of BMI material that lay up on to a 15ft plus tool. At the beginning of the process I have to mount the tool on to mandrel using a overhead crane, torque the bolts from mandrel into the tool then load the program. I would proceed to laser probe the tool and set offsets to align the tool with the machine. After the alignment is done, the automated lay up starts and through out I will have to be making basic machine adjustments as necessary. Once a ply is done I would go verify the ply is up to work order instructions criteria, also use a Optical lay out template (OLT) to verify ply is within laser tolerance. Through the run of the machine I will have to be changing rolls of material and updating the material traceability sheets on the work order. I was a delegated inspector were I could inspect and buy off other operators work off.

I know how to set up, operate and adjust numerically controlled multiple axes tape laying machines using all forms of control media, program documents, and fixtures and/or by manually operating or entering any required data to machine pursuant to quality and efficiency requirements. To begin operating the machine I will have to set up the vacuum table, load the program, set the X and Y offsets then I can start laying up plies on the ATL. Once a ply is done I will have to verify that the ply meets work order instructions criteria and continue laying plies until I have completed the lay up process. When the lay up is completely done I will have to set the depth of the ultrasonic cutter to ensure that it will cut thru the laminate and have a good quality part at the end. I have worked with Engineering and other professional staff to improve work processes making it more efficient. Materials that I have worked with involve a wide variety of composite pre-pregs, both carbon and fiberglass-based. I would fabricate both flat parts as well as parts with curvature with the ATL CNC machine. I have worked in different parts for different programs, including many prototype( 1st article) parts that I would have to do as the Lead to ensure work order instructions and customer requirements were accurate. I was a delegated inspector were I could inspect and buy off other operators work as well as my own work.

Working at the Gerber department I have acquire multiple skills such as scheduling, strong communication skills and managing skills. I have been Implementing ways on how to save material which I was acknowledge for. I been involve in implementation of Lean Manufacturing and making our work area 6S compliant. To start operating the Gerber machine I will have to set up my vacuum table with the corresponding material to the program. Once the table is set up, I have to make small adjustments to the cutters to make sure they don’t cut to deep into other plies or the ply it self. Sometimes I would have to redo the nesting on the program to space out, move around and add plies to maximized the program efficiency. When the run is done, I would have to bag, seal, label and send the kit to the freezer or to the floor. Other responsibilities include meeting with other production supervisor to ensure their departments have all their requirements(kits) for the day. I have worked with engineering many times fixing/creating work order instructions that make the process more efficient but also compliant with customer requirements. I also worked with multiple materials like Uni-tape, Fiberglass, Carbon, Wolven, Adhesive, Mylar and Rubber. I had the opportunity to work for different programs such as Boeing 787, 767, C17, -9, 777,F22,F35,Klune, KHI, FHI, Spirit, D5 and Pratt & Whitney. I was a delegated inspector were I could inspect and buy off other operators work as well as my own work.
