I was the supervisor of the team responsible for engineering and designing the telecommunications network throughout the enterprise. My group also engineers and administers the IP network for the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), relay, and control (ICS) systems centering around power distribution, transmission and generation. This work also includes installing and maintaining of the monitoring systems and logging systems for these networks.

I was a member of a team that is a subgroup of the telecommunications department. It was created for the purpose of installing and managing an IP network for the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), relay, and control (ICS) systems centering around power distribution, transmission and generation. I was fortunate to be able to assist in designing the IP system from its fruition. Within this group, I have become proficient at configuring and installing layer 2 and layer 3 switches, routers, network monitoring systems using simple network management protocol (SNMP) version 1, 2, and 3, syslog and log management systems, and secure shell (SSH) configuration, all with an emphasis in IT security. In addition, I assist in firewall, virtual private network (VPN), and intrusion detection system (IDS) installation and management. Within this group, I also create policies, processes, procedures, and standards for North American Electric Reliability Corporations (NERC) compliance as well as assist in knowledge transfer and management. I lead and have led many multi-million dollar project initiatives from idea inception and design to installation. I have read and strategically used the Control Objectives for Information and related Technology (CoBit) and Generally Accepted Privacy Principles (GAPP) frameworks for security and privacy auditing. Additionally, my training spans from practical application to my studies at Arizona State University.

I was part of the transport network team that works in telecommunications which handles the synchronous optical network (SONET) and dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) solutions for transporting data circuits to substations and generating stations. Within the department, I became proficient at designing and installing SONET systems and circuits working around high voltage power systems. Some of my main responsibilities included installation and contract management of leased circuits which included POTS/1FBs, DS0s, DS1s/T1s, DS3s/T3s, OC-1s, and OC-3s to automated meters, bill pay ATMs, business offices, large office facilities, and dispatching ring-downs. I also became the subject matter expert of the dispatching telephone and voice recorder systems for the power system dispatching groups.

I learned distribution design standards and assisted designers with power and loading calculations. I also performed a peak load usage per sqft by building class study whereby I found the average peak power consumption per square foot based on building class. I then transferred to distribution policies, procedures, and standards where I assisted in developing a new application for calculating flicker, voltage drop, and pole loading from the older DOS program.
