Interlune is a privately funded natural resources company committed to sustainable and responsible harvesting of natural resources from space to benefit humanity. Based in Seattle, Interlune was founded in 2020 by a team of highly experienced government and industry experts. Aiming to be the first U.S. company to commercialize resources from space, Interlune has developed patent-pending technology that extracts materials from the lunar soil, or regolith, using the smallest, most energy-efficient machinery ever conceived. Created the organization from scratch and led development and flight of four unique rocket-powered vehicles, utilizing in-house developed liquid rocket engines. Selected and started up sites in Washington State, Texas, Florida, Virginia, Paris France, and Alabama. Created and led the Advanced Development Programs business unit before leaving the company in 2018. Developed strategic plans; set organizational and financial goals; and managed strategic initiatives to ensure company success. Engaged with Congress and Executive Branch. Hired and led the company Advisory Board.Managed team that proposed and won Commercial Crew Development program rounds 1 and 2 for the NASA Commercial Crew Program (CCP); development and production of BE-4 rocket engines for the United Launch Alliance (ULA) Vulcan launch vehicle; and launch agreements with Eutelsat, OneWeb, and muSpace. I participated in shaping military and civil government programs like Rocket Propulsion Systems, NSSL, CLPS, and HLS. Led design, development, and production of Landing (parachutes and airbags) and Thermal Protection Subsystems (TPS) for K-1 two-stage Reusable Launch Vehicle (RLV), reporting to Executive VP and Chief Engineer. Developed requirements, selected and managed efforts of subcontractors, performed design trade studies, and presented results to executive management. Led team that developed aerodynamic database, mission design, loads, dynamics, and thermal design criteria and requirements for all mission phases, with data used by seven prime contractors (Lockheed Martin, Aerojet, Allied Signal, Draper, Northrop Grumman, Oceaneering, and Irvin Aerospace (now Airborne Systems). Responsible for all technical activities related to NASA programs, including business capture, program execution, and customer interface. Directed efforts that led to $135M contract award for NASA’s Space Launch Initiative program (TA-10 Flight Demonstrations). Managed technical proposal volume, led technical team during negotiations, managed development of all technical deliverables and customer relationship. Contract award included an option for an autonomous rendezvous and docking flight experiment, which later contributed to the formulation of the Commercial Orbital Transportation Services (COTS) contracts to Kistler and SpaceX for ISS cargo delivery.

Contributed to various spacecraft programs, including Space Shuttle, International Space Station (ISS), Assured Crew Return Vehicle (ACRV) and X-38/Crew Rescue Vehicle (CRV). Served as Space Shuttle Orbiter Aerodynamics Subsystem Manager, responsible for commit-to-flight and flight test objectives on more than 15 flights. Aerodynamics lead for the Orbiter Drag Parachute, a modification recommended by the Rogers Commission. Conducted wind tunnel tests, built simulation models, participated in fixed and motion-base simulations, and conducted handling qualities (Cooper-Harper) assessments. Worked with an interdisciplinary team of aerodynamicists, flight control engineers, mechanical systems engineers, flight directors, flight controllers, trainers, and astronauts.Participated in the conceptual and preliminary design of the Assured Crew Return Vehicle. Integrated contractor (Boeing and Lockheed Martin) designs into system level trade studies. Engineering representative on Australian landing site selection team. Traveled to four candidate sites over two weeks, meeting with state government representatives, local police, search and rescue personnel; and conducted physical site surveys.Led development and flight test of an innovative gliding parachute system for the X-38/CRV using an autonomous flight control system for approach and landing. Navigation sensors include global position system (GPS), LIDAR and inertial sensors. Built simulation capability to model multi-body, 9+ degree of freedom dynamics and system performance. Developed relationships with U.S. Army Soldier Systems Center and Yuma Proving Ground to conduct airdrop testing. The team, simulation tools and U.S. Army relationships formed the basis for the Orion Capsule Parachute Assembly System (CPAS).Was a Cooperative Education student trainee from August 1985 to June 1986.
