Rob holds a Ph.D in CO2 corrosion and is the Subject Matter Expert - Corrosion & Metallurgy for Kent Plc. He specializes in oil and gas corrosion mechanisms, welding metallurgy, materials selection, integrity and corrosion management, fitness-for-service assessments, and forensic level failure analysis. In 2018 he was awarded the Klaus Seppeler Prize from the German Society for Corrosion Prevention (GfKORR) for outstanding scientific research and development for his work on preferential weld corrosion of flowlines. Rob has extensive experience in forensic level failure analyses of upstream and downstream equipment, such as the high temperature hydrogen attack of naphtha hydrotreaters, stress corrosion cracking of heat exchanger tubes, sensitization of claddings, flow induced pitting corrosion, fatigue failures of sucker rods, ennoblement of stainless steel welds, creep and stress corrosion cracking of nickel superalloy turbine blades, coating failures, and the preferential weld corrosion of ERW linepipes. He also developed specialist electrochemical techniques for materials and inhibitor selection. Rob is currently responsible for the integrity of Santos' offshore gas assets in Western Australia.
