Weapons Simulation And Computing Program Coordinator For Computing And Programming EnvironmentsLawrence Livermore National Laboratory Jan 2016 - Aug 2020Livermore, CaWeapons Simulation and Computing was created in 2016 at LLNL to consolidates much of the advanced applications HPC development at LLNL in a single program, covering stockpile stewardship, engineering applications, and Internal Confinement Fusion. In my Program Coordinator role, I'm part of the senior management team responsible for integrating activities in Livermore Computing and CASC with our mission-critical code development efforts. In this role, I'm managing the Sierra Center of Excellence - a vendor partnership with IBM and NVIDIA to prepare our applications for running on our upcoming Sierra platform (part of the CORAL procurement). I'm also the chair for a newly formed WSC Research Coordination Council, which aims to advance our research mission in applications, algorithms, and computer science, and bridge leading-edge research into the WSC mission. I'm also responsible for managing our next-generation code development activities as part of the ASC ATDM (Advanced Technology Development and Mitigation) program element. This project (Multiphysics on Advanced Platforms, or MAP) is developing a new simulation capability for stockpile stewardship. -
Associate Division Leader, CascLawrence Livermore National Laboratory Jun 2012 - Aug 2020Livermore, CaAssociate Division Leader for the Center for Applied Scientific Computing (CASC), LLNL's CS and Computational Math research organization. -
Computer ScientistLawrence Livermore National Laboratory Aug 1994 - Aug 2015Worked as a computer scientist / software engineer on several large HPC applications, most notably ALE3D (https://wci.llnl.gov/simulation/computer-codes/ale3d). On the ALE3D team, I was the lead architect rewriting for distributed memory architectures from the time I started at the lab in 1994, and continued in various technical leadership roles until I left the project in 2010. I also worked on several other projects and software libraries during my tenure writing code, most of which none of you will have heard of as they are internally developed and used at LLNL. But they were really awesome. -
Exascale Computing Project Lead For Nnsa SoftwareU.S. Department Of Energy (Doe) Jul 2016 - Sep 2020In the DOE Exascale Computing Project, I am the L3 lead Software Ecosystem and Delivery (formerly: co-design and integration) within the Software Technology Focus Area. This involves overseeing the robust delivery to our stakeholder (the DOE HPC facilities AND the broader community) of 80+ software products being developed within ECP. Since early 2018, ECP is organizing software delivery around Software Development Kits (SDKs) of related software, aimed to ensure interoperability, better APIs, community standards for software quality, and a generally easier deployment experience built around Spack. We're also pushing several cross-cutting activities to assist with HPC software development - including spearheading efforts around bringing GitLab CI to HPC "bare metal" through a 3rd party subcontract, and working with our partners at the DOE HPC facilities to bring best practices around containers into standard working processes. -
