Director, It Systems

Manufacturing Test Engineering Program Manager

San Jose, California, United States

Program managing the manufacturing test engineering aspect of a mixed reality product in mass production. Focused on improving yield, test time, failure traceability, and measurement repeatability in coordination with partner teams - product dev, factory operations, failure analysis, and quality.

Director Of Software Engineering, Industrial Devices Bu

San Jose, Ca

I led two manufacturing test engineering (MTE) software teams, primarily one involving an AR wearable for the Army, Project IVAS, and secondarily a Time of Flight camera used on autonomous cars. Both teams were responsible for test station bring-up, support, and software feature development in C# & Python during the respective manufacturing lifecycles, including PoC, EVT, DVT, PVT, and Mass Production. Test stations would perform various optical tests using cameras, lighting equipment, and Epson / Fanuc robotic arms manipulating the device under test. Both projects were driven in an Agile manner, utilizing Azure DevOps or Jira / Bitbucket. The MTE team's main KPIs were increasing throughput and reducing returned field units. The first goal was met by prioritizing sprint deliverables, which reduced test station takt time through either procedural test optimizations or improvements in stability to reduce non-repeatable failures (NRFs). The second goal was met by adding additional validation coverage in coordination with the FA and Quality teams. Other software deliverables included diagnostic applications for technicians and improved operator instructions with explicit error guidance.I'm proud of the excellent customer feedback the team received each quarter for working hard and smart to meet tight deadlines. Each day had its unique challenge, and some weeks felt like a step backward, but over 2 years, from EVT to Mass Production, we reduced NRFs by 80% and the overall average total takt time by 27%.

Sr. Manager Of Automated System Test, Cloud Hardware Platforms Bu

San Jose, California, United States

Led a team of software development engineers and system test engineers focused on the automated validation of Flex-designed or integrated servers, switches, and racks. We built our CloudLabs private cloud test framework into a web application called FAST (Framework for Automated System Test) designed to image servers with Ubuntu or CentOS Linux and perform dozens of automated tests in an engineering lab setting. These tests included system inventory and configuration, network connectivity, performance, stress, BMC UI testing with Selenium, and custom application workload testing. Test cases were automatically tracked in the JIRA test case management system Zephyr. The full technology stack included Python, Ansible, Laravel (Php), later React, SQL, Grafana, and Telegraf. We used Jenkins, Docker, and Kubernetes to manage and scale the application. The software team's KPIs included system engineering throughput.

The CloudLabs team integrates and validates Flex compute and storage servers with partner switches, racks, and PDUs. We partner with cloud software providers to create single and multi-rack private cloud solutions.Over the past few years, we have worked with software partners to architect hardware clusters, deploy cloud platforms such as OpenStack, Ceph, VMware VSAN, or Kubernetes, and validate the cloud platform and application performance. Our team has developed a FAST automation framework to validate systems, deploy OpenStack, and characterize VM and container workload performance using standard Linux test tools and open-source platforms such as Ansible and Kubernetes.
