About Robert Nicholas

Life is a journey. I believe that in order to find fulfillment, one must take on new challenges and stretch toward new opportunities. After five years as a music teacher in a public school setting, I found myself wanting to do something different, something based in technology, and quite honestly, something that provided better means to support myself and my family. While completing my Master of Science in Instructional Design, I began my post-teaching career designing adult learning for mid-career officers in the United States Army. My team was charged with converting the entire curriculum of the US Army Officer Intermediate Level Education to online learning. In this role, we gathered lesson plans, interviewed instructors, observed classroom lessons, built storyboards, and oversaw the development of our work into some of the earliest multimedia instruction delivered online when high-speed internet was not yet as ubiquitous as it is now. This work prepared me for my next challenge as the instructional designer and overall training subject matter expert for a large department (300+ employees) of a major health insurance carrier. As time progressed, however, I wanted to challenge myself even more and left my comfort zone of instructional design and moved into operations management, where I led a team of 12 extremely dedicated and effective sales support specialists. This led me to take on positions of further responsibility to include management of a quality assurance team, management of an offshore programming team, and finally leading me to discover low code/no code software development solutions. During this time, I had the privilege of honing my leadership skills by serving as a United States Army Warrant Officer and Commander of the only United States Army Reserve Band in the Pacific Northwest region. Management is a science...leadership is an art...the Army was a lesson in both.Since 2016, I have managed development teams that use low/no code solutions to solve business problems. We have leveraged K2 to build micro-apps and workflows supporting healthcare intake, enrollment, claims, quality assurance, compliance, knowledge management, human resources and warehouse management. I have also expanded my skillset into Salesforce and ServiceNow. In 2023, my career shifted once again, taking on the role of Business Architect for the operations area at a major health insurance carrier.
