Was promoted to Head of Engineering to reflect the multitude of responsibilities I had gathered since joining Vira Health - one of the major ones being taking the lead on the technical side of our regulatory compliance. This was required as the Stella+ product is a regulated medical device in the UK and therefore needed to be accredited by the MHRA governing body. This involved working with internal clinicians as well as third-party consultants to prepare our documentation as well as various evidence from data security, software development processes and risk mitigations point of view.In addition to the above I also continued with my responsibilities as a Principal Engineer as well as taking a higher level role in feature and resource planning whilst still doing some hands-on coding.

Joined as the first internal technical hire to help Vira Health continue developing their unreleased Stella app to help women going through the Menopause using a personalised lifestyle plan with exercises, habits and a real coach to talk to. Took over the development for the back-end API and administration portals for the Stella app written using Symfony PHP framework. This also included the management and maintenance of the AWS infrastructure that it all ran on. Worked closely with an iOS developer and product manager to immediately start developing new features and bug fixes.Very quickly also started running the process to hire and grow the team, moving up to a team of 7 total within a year, all of which I hired and line managed. This involved bi-annual reviews where we spoke about their performance and also planned goals for the next 6 months. Also then had monthly 1:1s to check in on these goals. Mentored and helped develop each engineers skills as well as planning and running sessions to help discover each persons preferences for things such as aways of learning.Within the first 6 months also took on the planning and development of a new product (Stella+) which would help Vira Health provide the full treatment pathway for a woman going through the menopause by providing the pharmaceutical side of treatment to work in tandem with the lifestyle app Stella. New product was developed using Typescript, Nest.js, NX monorepos, GitHub Actions and micro-services - as well as using Terraform for provisioning the infrastructure.

I took on the Lead Software Engineer role and immediately helped seed a new cross-functional team with 2 Junior Software Engineers that I mentored as well as QA and product. This team quickly became one of the most highly performing teams in the company due to the best-practise approach we took to our Agile methodology.As well as helping lead a single product team, I also took on the responsibility of ensuring that two different product were aligned when developing the product as well as helping lead architectural decisions that would affect both teams.

I joined Wealth Wizards as a Senior Software engineer with very little JavaScript experience but managed to learn Node.js, Express, React, Redux, Cypress, Jest, Jenkins and MongoDB on the job to very quickly become proficient in them. I also began to learn more about AWS, microservices, Kubernetes, CI/CD as well as other technologies that Wealth Wizards used.I joined a relatively small cross-functional agile team and helped to grow and shape the team alongside the team lead. I quickly started to take the lead on certain projects as well as helping to mentor newer members of the team which led to my promotion to Lead Software Engineer.The work at Wealth Wizards involved extremely complex financial advice which also meant that it sat in a highly regulated industry (FCA), This meant that code quality and automated testing were of high importance to ensure the team could move safely at speed.

Lead numerous projects for large e-commerce sites built using a bespoke PHP solution. Also pioneered the companies use of both Magento 1 and Magento 2 deployed in AWS for the first time for large e-commerce clients.

Worked as part of a web team to maintain multiple sites within the A1 Communications portfolio. Including www.affordablemobiles.co.uk, www.gomobile.co.uk and www.asdamobilephones.com. Also developed completely new white-label solution via the FuelPHP MVC framework, first used for www.phones.co.uk. Which also included a CMS capable of SEO for every page, banner image uploading with dynamic pricing as well as the creation of new promotional pages with no coding knowledge required.
