Meet Rob SmithBUSINESS: I am the CEO at The Active Hands Company Ltd. Following an accident in 1996, I sustained a spinal cord injury. After my rehabilitation in hospital, I was determined to work hard to build strength and stamina to enable me to be as independent as possible. Frustrated by how my reduced hand function was holding me back in the gym, I designed a gripping aid and, with the help of my mum and her sewing machine, the General Purpose Gripping Aid was created. The Active Hands Company Ltd grew from there and is now a one-stop shop for products to support those with reduced hand function. Active Hands enables people with a wide range of disabilities, from all over the world, to achieve active and independent lives - from tasks of daily living to competing in professional sport and everything in-between.SPORT: I have been involved in para sport for over 2 decades. I began playing wheelchair rugby, working my way up to GB development squad level. I am now a high level T52 wheelchair racer with achievements including winning the T52 marathon world cup (2018), Silver in the European championships 1500m (2014), T51/52 world marathon majors victories in Boston, Chicago, London and Berlin (numerous years). I am currently the British T52 record holder over every distance from 800m up to marathon. I achieved my Abbott Marathon Majors 6 star finishers medal in Tokyo in 2024.FAMILY: I am married to Jo and 'Dad' to two children. Family life is busy but brings great joy and balance to my work and sporting commitments.
