As Zynga CTO, I'm focused on company strategy, research and development, and fostering the engineering discipline's healthy culture. Previously, as Engineering Fellow, Technical Director of Zynga's Advanced Technology Group. The ATG team is working on developing new titles for emerging platforms and markets. Also: managing partnerships with key third-party vendors; champion of better tools for higher-quality titles and shorter time-to-market; seeking out and mentoring top talent inside the company. As Distinguished Engineer: Divisional CTO of the FarmVille franchise. I was responsible for the technical outcomes for all games in the division. Architect: Game CTO, and Studio CTO, FarmVille 2 Country Escape (iOS #1 free app, Android) and CastleVille Legends (iOS, Android, Web). As Game CTO, I lead the development team in designing and building a top (#1 free) mobile title. As individual contributor: developed physics system and level-editor tool pipeline for an unreleased Cocos2d-based mobile title.

TouchCentric is a premiere developer of iOS applications. Many of the apps we’ve created have reached the top app charts in the App Store: video apps like Panna (App Store Best of 2012), games like Sumo! (Top 25 in the Games category), business apps like iContact, consumer apps like OpenMyVideo (selected as a Top 10 video service by Mashable), broadcast industry apps like WRAL-TV and WUNC Radio. TouchCentric develops the Unity iPhone Enhancement Pack, which adds iOS-native feature enhancements to top iPhone games.

As CTO I designed and developed the Ginormous HTML5 game engine, a cloud-based development system that includes a web-based game editor written in JavaScript, Objective-J, and Cappuccino; a Node.js-based multiplayer server; a Google Closure-based build system; and a CouchDB storage backend. While developing the tools I also developed a AAA title using the engine, which is scheduled to be published in 2012. I also designed and implemented the server-side architecture to implement the social features of RepFun’s large-scale Facebook games.

Avacast provides award-winning webcast and web conferencing software for distance learning, online meetings, and remote collaboration over the internet. Key customers include Kaplan Inc., California State University, Cal Poly Pomona, Ventura County Schools, Microsoft, HP, Turner Broadcasting, Tenet Healthcare, and the Research Triangle Institute. As CTO, I architected the technology, hired the development team, and developed the client-side software. As founder and first CEO, I raised the startup capital, incorporated the company, developed the business plan and marketing strategy, and secured an angel round of funding.

Digital Planet was a webcasting studio with three sound stages in a 30,000 square foot production facility. My duties included oversight of all technical aspects of the company; negotiations with partners and investors such as Intel, Mellon Ventures, Akamai, and Digital Island; contributing to overall strategy and marketing; contributing to sales calls and pitch meetings; and leading the development of new streaming products, and deployment of streaming services.

I led the engineering staff of the Los Angeles office, which produced highly visible large-scale web and back-end integration projects for clients such as Universal Studios, Mattel, Technicolor, Baker & Taylor, Polygram, and Franklin Covey. I interacted with clients, developed proposals and scoping documents, and worked with the production and creative teams to see projects through to completion. My responsibilities included sales engineering, developing estimates and scheduling, and mentoring my staff on new technologies.

Blip produced fun internet-based games and web-toys delivered via its award-winning web site. Blip’s games include Sumo! (featured in Wired magazine), PerambulatorGP (winner in the 1997 LA Animation Festival), and online multiplayer games like NetChess. Blip has licensed its games to companies like Cuervo.com, Mott's, Viacom, TBWA\Chiatt\Day, Knowledge Universe, Kidsedge, and Knowledge Kids Network.
