Born into a family of pilots and longtime US leadership who have maintained aircraft for many years, he was afforded the opportunity to have many different types of tools and mentors to shape his life. His innovative use of small unmanned aerial systems for the future of sustainability and wildlife conservation are prevalent as a current board member of the Kashmir World Foundation who has participated in many wildlife conservation initiatives using science, aerospace and policy to protect animals. R Dana is one of the world’s foremost authorities on the subjects of aviation and unmanned aircraft systems for aircraft design, certification, regulation, policy and innovative flight training. Rob’s grandfather Donald M Thompson was a pioneering member of the United States Air Force by federal appointment granted by Truman in 1947. Don coordinated the command change of NASA in 1958 on behalf of the US Military during its transition from NACA a civil aviation administration to NASA a space administration at the time under the Office of Chief of Transportation, Dept of the Army TCACR. Virginia who was R Dana’s grandmother was an accomplished fixed and rotor wing pilot soloing in 1937 and becoming one of the first female licensed helicopter pilots and later test pilot and consultant on behalf of Bell. Virginia was also the first historian for the famed 99’s women pilots group and 1st mid Atlantic chapter president.R Dana inspired to find and implement solutions around the globe to protect people, create positive solutions, implementing award winning technologies and game changing strategies for animals, the US warfighter, citizens of the US homeland and for those who are in need that supports the US broader strategic mission.
