I’ve worked in this field for the last decade, first building the strategy and team behind the Amazon Elasticsearch Service (now Amazon Opensearch Service). Being part of the AWS ecosystem taught me a huge amount about customer use cases both for Elasticsearch (ecommerce, IT observability and SIEM) but more importantly around the data lifecycle – where it goes after the app that produced it is done with it and how it becomes useful to the organization as a whole as part of aggregated reports and business insight. I had a broader scope at OCI, owning 5 open-source services (Opensearch, Redis, Postgres, Cassandra, FHIR), which enabled me to understand what problems customers had running multiple services on a common platform and build a strategy that would simplify their day-to-day operations while maintaining the OSS interfaces they wanted.
