An exciting new chapter building Prototal's software department, with the aim of developing bespoke production systems to streamline our production processes.

The role is based around the maintenance and development of all internal and external software systems at 3T. From administering Salesforce, our front end CRM package, to maintaining our internal bespoke production system, I am involved throughout the entire process chain.As part of improving the service 3T offer, we are actively developing our software systems. While tweaks are done directly within the bespoke system, more major changes have to be designed and prototyped which is something I undertake, using web based technologies, including PHP, MYSQL and Javascript. These fully functional 'beta' systems are then used in conjunction with our main production system, until we are happy with its functionality, at that point the system is ported across to the final system.While not a major part of my role, I am still involved in design for process with some key customers and the technology and knowledge transfer that goes with it.

Having moved into this newly created position late 2013, I now oversee key client projects, working on development of products and processes in relation to the clients needs. On top of this I fulfil the in house design requirements for process improvement, helping to design and build systems to aid manufacture within the company, both physical and software. I have also started to take on medical design work, helping with the design of implants and custom tooling. Recently I have become heavily involved in some of the many TSB funded projects that 3T is a partner in.

My new graduate roll includes similar day to day activities, such as file inspection, data and build preparation and daily client contact. However it has now increased to include process control, SLS machine maintenance and process improvement. These new responsibilities require increased knowledge of the process and the systems used, as well as greater analytical skills and problem solving methods.

My role was to inspect CAD files for quote, carrying out any fixing required and setup builds to run on SLS machines. Included in this I had to have a great deal of contact with clients, be able to manage multiple projects at once, stick to deadlines and work under a great amount of pressure. Whilst at this position I gained a huge amount of knowledge of the SLS process, it's machines and the software used to run them.
