MATES resources are usable by everyone who has a nervous system.The MATES program gives stressed people specific, easy to use skills to create more relaxation in their own bodies, which lead to an increase in personal feelings of stability and autonomy. Using MATES allows people to live more consciously, which allows them as a knock on effect, to be capable of being more connected in relationships with others and themselves.The skills taught in the MATES program were influenced by Somatic Experiencing, include some mindfulness techniques, an easy & effective way to work with negative thinking which breaks the lock onto the negative downward spiral, some gentle body movements & boundary exercises, visualising, grounding, easy ways to empower yourself through your choices, and simple breathing exercises.
