Popular Music in various forms has become my life-long passion — Music Education, Song-writing, Live Performance, Improvisation, Arrangement and Orchestration, Audio Production and related skills. My life experience and ability to translate complex ideas into simple graduated systems has naturally led me into the field of Music Education. At present I am developing an online music education site offering a dynamic range of video tutorials and educational products for guitarists in the field of Popular Music. My previous educational products "Learn Guitar Easily – Level 1 For Absolute Beginners" (DVD, 2006) and "Understanding Music Theory" (Book, 1992) met substantial needs in the market place. Currently I lecture Guitar Improvisation, Song-writing and Home Studio Recording Set-up at Byron Community College. I also teach privately to students in the Byron Shire.Performing solo and with my band DarkLight my repertoire is solidly based on my many original songs. Described as a classic song-writer with powerful stage presence, my unique sound is built around 12 string guitar open tunings and keyboard drones. Especially enjoying the craft of song-writing I have a large library of completed work and welcome opportunities to collaborate with others. In 2012 I travelled to Thailand to record tracks at Chris Crakers' Karma Sound Studios. Further recording with the highly talented Brett Hamlyn of Deva Studio (Kyogle, Australia) led to the completion of my album "Wheel Of Life". Known as an inventive, creative bass player I play both fretted and fretless and am available for gigs or sessions.

Described as a classic song writer with powerful delivery and stage presence, I have developed my unique approach to songwriting built around the sheer power and beauty of the 12 string guitar. Open guitar tunings, hypnotic keyboard drones coupled with my baritone vocals lay a solid, evocative foundation for my songs. I perform solo or with my band DarkLight, showcasing a repertoire weighted towards my originals. The band lineup consists of myself (12 string guitar/keys/vocals) and Belle Stewart (drums/harmony vocals). DarkLight currently performs at selected venues around the Byron Shire. Recorded at Karma Sound Studios (Thailand) and Brett Hamlyns' Deva Studio (Australia), my album "Wheel Of Life" was completed in 2014.In 2000 I was appointed Contemporary Music Tutor for Mitchell Conservatorium (NSW), and for twelve years taught guitar, electric bass, music theory, song-writing and improvisation to a wide variety of students of all ages and abilities.Hailing originally from Wainuiomata New Zealand, I began playing guitar and bass in schoolboy bands and later studied orchestration, music theory and history at Victoria and Otago Universities. In the early eighties I left for Australia and initially taught guitar at Waverley Woollahra Arts Centre (Bondi, Sydney). A move to the Central West of NSW initiated an invitation to work as Contemporary Music Tutor for the renowned Mitchell Conservatorium of Music. I held this position for 12 years instructing guitar and bass performance, music theory and song-writing. Concurrently I directed the busy Parkes Music Studio over a 25 year period which had enormous impact on the local music scene.

Parkes Nsw Australia
Parkes Music Studio was a dynamic hub of musical activity for 27 years with thousands of students coming through the doors. Over this period I taught guitarists, bass players and singer-songwriters performance, theory and improvisation skills. The focus of my teaching was always on the development of students personal creativity. A number of students from this studio subsequently studied music at higher institutions and are now established professional and semi-professional performers.
