Whilst working within the escape rooms, I have to instruct and monitor a range of different audiences to ensure they understand what is occurring whilst under my care. I stand at the front of the room and guide the customers through the health and safety protocols of the company and instruct what is expected of them whilst attending. This is done to ensure that the customers are safe within our care and to ensure they are clear of what the task will entail. I accomplish this by presenting all instructions at the front of the room and interact with all customers with any queries. The skills I use are: public speaking and communicating to large groups of individuals and using Microsoft software to demonstrate and explain certain situations if needed by the groups. This resulted in the customers enjoying their time at our company and in turn, coming back to try the numerous other rooms we offer too.

Alongside studying for my degree, I decided to become a student ambassador to represent the university. The main tasks that I undertake within this role are: helping out with open events and guiding guests around the campus, give group and individual campus and accommodation tours and also assist with basic administration work. I completed these tasks by interacting with potential applicants at open events to ask if they would be interested in tours of the campus or speaking to lead lecturers about a specific course. I did this because I want potential applicants to leave the open event with all their questions answered and that the university is a welcoming and comfortable place to study. I approached these tasks by being approachable, going up to potential students and interacting and being inquisitive about them and their interests and helping and directing if needed. As a result of this, numerous applicants came up to me and expressed how I was very helpful and later led to numerous applicants applying to study at the university. Also, enhancing my team-playing skills between other student ambassadors.

Alongside my degree, I acquired a job working with a data compliant company. Within this job I worked with Microsoft software, created infographics, completed timesheets, completed research specific websites to create blog posts for the company’s website and analysed data. I had to be creative with the infographics by using Publisher for online training courses that the company were providing businesses with. The infographics were used to allow the course to be more interactive and helpful for customers. This job enabled me to use and develop my IT skills, my written communication skills and allowed me to develop my verbal communication via contacting and speaking directly to individuals over the phone. These actions resulted in my work being used by the company on their website and allowing me to learning about data and how to comply.

Whilst working in a hotel and restaurant, I entailed tasks such as waitressing and office work e.g. advertising and marketing. The restaurant aspect ensured that I interacted with numerous different individuals and have an idea of how hospitality works. I promoted the business to ensure there was profitable turnover via the marketing side of the role and see what worked best around that specific area. The skills I used here were IT skills, verbal communication, inter-personal skills and enhance my leadership skills when in charge of a team. These actions allowed the business to attract more customers and allow more events to be put on for special occasions e.g. Christmas, New Year and Easter.
