Electronics ArchitectCymer Sep 2012 - Sep 2014San Diego, Ca, UsDeveloped electrical and electronic requirements and architecture for the next generation extreme ultra-violet (EUV) light source for semiconductor wafer lithography. Supported multidisciplinary systems including optics, high-power lasers, metrology, mechatronics, and multiprocessor and FPGA-based timing and energy control. Became the Electrical Engineering Competency Leader, coordinating local competency alignment activities, and serving as technical liaison to the ASML corporate Electronics Development (EDEV) department, during the international corporate merger between Cymer in San Diego and ASML in Veldhoven, The Netherlands. -
Staff Electrical EngineerIllumina 2011 - Aug 2012San Diego, Ca, UsArchitected and designed custom FPGA logic (VHDL, Xilinx ISE, XPS/MicroBlaze) for new and existing DNA sequencing products, including subsystems for RFID, stepper motor control, encoder-based motion recording, and adaptive optical detection of fluidic features. Reviewed and contributed to electrical designs of new and existing product features, working with multidisciplinary teams to address a wide variety of issues including grounding, EMI and noise reduction, RF performance, mechanical functionality, and production problems, in order to meet customer shipment commitments. -
Principal Hardware EngineerCalamp 1998 - 2009Irvine, Ca, UsArchitected and designed board and module-level digital, analog, and programmable electronics for a wide variety of products, including portable devices, media gateways, optical image scanning devices, tablet computers/cradles, motorized machines, audio components, vehicle tracking systems, and GPS modules. Architected, designed, simulated and implemented custom FPGA logic (VHDL, Xilinx ISE), including custom interfaces, standard bus interfaces, and third party logic cores (PCI, Ethernet). Designed, prototyped and tested numerous PCBs with embedded micro-controller/processor implementations. Optimized electronic designs with respect to cost, performance, and schedule. Maintained design responsibility from concept to manufacturing, including development of requirements, detailed design specifications, fabrication and assembly, hardware/software integration, design verification testing, pilot/production and acceptance testing. Led technical teams and conducted extensive design reviews throughout the product development cycle. Reviewed and mentored junior engineers and provided technical expertise to staff.Note: CalAmp purchased Vytek in 2004. Vytek purchased Stellcom in 2003. -
Research ScientistEastman Kodak 1994 - 1998Rochester, New York, UsDesigned, simulated and implemented complex FPGA logic (Altera, AHDL) for real-time audio encoding/modulation and demodulation/decoding using custom run-length-limited codes in a novel “in-frame” magnetic photographic film recording channel. Developed mixed mode (analog/digital) Matlab/Simulink models of adaptive magnetic signal processing electronics, and utilized the results to design prototype hardware. Designed biasing and instrumentation circuits for state-of-the-art magneto-resistive sensors as new designs were invented by physicists. Led hardware design for a low-cost, camera-based magnetic recording system for photographic film, and worked with silicon designers to specify a mixed signal ASIC implementation. -
Instructor Of Electrical EngineeringKettering University 1993 - 1994Flint, Mi, UsPrepared and taught undergraduate electrical engineering courses in circuits, digital systems (logic design), and digital signal processing (DSP). Advised thesis students. -
Electronics EngineerNavsea 1987 - 1991Washington Navy Yard, Dc, UsDesigned, simulated, and prototyped electronic control modules for naval applications, including custom programmable logic, microprocessors, analog instrumentation and artificial neural networks. -
Electrical Engineer / Co-OpGeneral Motors 1981 - 1987Detroit, Michigan, UsSupervised production and maintenance union (UAW) employees (25-30), designed machine control systems, and successfully completed a wide variety of challenging projects in chemistry, metallurgy, plant engineering, quality, and production control in a high-volume, heavy-industry production facility.
