I am a lecturer and visual artist born in Gqeberha, South Africa. Trained as an artist in academics, I studied Fine Art and obtained my Masters degree (2019) cum laude. Currently, I am a lecturer at Rhodes University and the section head of Painting. I taught painting at Nelson Mandela University where I incorporated a facilitated learning approach in the painting studio which encouraged critical thinking, ownership and individuality whilst fostering engagement in learning amongst students. Furthermore, I also taught into the Visual Studies course with a lecture series titled Visual Arts and Healing. The lectures explored art making as a therapeutic tool, art as an imaginative expression for healing and art for adapting change through healing. I have presented my practice-based research at numerous conference proceedings including the 35th annual SAVAH Conference. I have exhibited in many group exhibitions across South Africa and am a participating artist in the Spier Arts Trust Creative Block program. My artmaking techniques explore a variety of unconventional media in painting which is vital in visualizing and aestheticizing the conceptual underpinnings of my art. The unconventional approach enables me to experiment with a variety of painting media and explore the endless possibilities of manipulating media as opposed to the two-dimensional limitations of paint on canvas.
