Led 4 to 7 groups per day facilitating therapeutic activities for adults with active psychosis, adults in recovery from substance abuse, and children with a variety of mental health and/or behavioral needs.

Portland, Indiana

Planned and facilitated daily group and individualized therapy sessions (art, board and card games, video games, music, mindfulness/meditation, fitness, baking/cooking, gardening), focusing on topics such as self-esteem, coping skills, emotional regulation, boundaries, values clarification, and automatic thoughts.

Assisted professional recreational therapy staff of inpatient rehabilitation center with APIED process on daily basis. With and without supervision, provided interventions to patients in spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury departments.

Assisted professional staff with therapeutic activities. With supervision, provided recreational therapy services to individual clients and groups. After initial guided practice, conducted assessments without supervision. Practiced facilitation techniques and learned program management procedures.

Served as a teacher’s aide in kindergarten and first grade inclusion classes, working with small groups for math and reading. Provided support and sensory room interventions for special needs students. Also served as an aide in reading intervention for kindergarten, third, fourth, and fifth grades.

Served as an instructor for the San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) in an outdoor education program for sixth grade students in both public and private schools. Led my own core group of approximately 19 students each week in the natural science and social/emotional learning programs.

Provided professional support of summer camp sessions serving children and adults with challenging illnesses or special needs at a unique, barrier free facility. Exercised primary responsibility for camper safety in water activities. Provided direct personal support of assigned campers during hours when pool was closed. Led games and other recreational activities.

Taught academic and adventure classes to K-12 students. Facilitated high ropes and rock climbing challenge courses and taught multiple subjects including Water Quality, Reptiles, Astronomy, Fishing, Archery, and Kayaking. Facilitated games, teambuilding activities, sports, and evening campfire activities.
