Technical Product Owner, Digital Transformation | Ai/Ml | Biotechnology | Pharma
CurrentGenmab is an international biotech company specializing in antibody therapeutics for the treatment of cancer and other serious diseases.I was primarily hired to provide design services for a range of AI based initiatives to increase productivity and quality. My main focus has been the design, delivery & management of a business service targeting improvements in quality, completeness & timeliness for regulatory required clinical trial documentation. To meet the business goals, delivery timescales and address resource & skill gaps I’ve adopted 3 different roles:• Business translator• Product designer• Technical product owner (TPO)This project has required me to draw deeply on non-design aspects of my previous experience especially in relation to team management (TPO), stakeholder management and realising business goals and ambitions in order to meet extremely aggressive timescales. All that whilst concurrently learning Pharmaceutical GxP, Clinical Trial management & regulation.
Service Manger (Service Designer)
GSK was going through an ambitious and challenging digital transformation journey to create a world class financial planning and analysis service. The programme itself had little, if any, exposure to user experience design and as a result I’ve had to both educate and actively convince the business as to why user experience and design thinking were crucial to ensuring success..Phase 1 ran for 3 months where I independently managed deep dive studies to identify common business processes, core users, stress points, critical path and priorities etc. delivered as service blueprints. In addition I provided tangible solutions for most of the existing pain points which could be implemented independently from the larger initiative.I then produced experience measures to ensure the solution aligned with users' needs and expectations, including emotionally, and how that success could be tracked in the future. For phase 2 (months 3-6) my focus shifted to fully supporting the business and building a bridge between them and the technology teams, especially around requirements gathering. This intervention was crucial as the validity, quality and timescales of the product were at risk. It derived from my observation that the business was struggling to understand both what was required and how to deliver it.Faced with that challenge I ran a series of user research sessions with specific business users for whom the product was intended. The output was optimal business process maps which set the foundations from which future requirements were subsequently built and also delivered on time.
Senior Ux Designer
Elsevier hired me as principal UX designer (permanent) for a product called Researchfish, which allowed international funders to track the success of grants and awards given to researchers. My role initially included a full UX review of the existing product and creating a research plan to validate existing user concerns. For the latter, I created an Excel thematic analysis tool that allowed me to evaluate more than 1000 user verbatims and generate an evidence-based set of prioritized areas of Improvement. This research and recommendations had to be data-driven and fact-based to ensure buy-in from board members as it contained individuals with a research and data science background. The prioritized schedule of improvements also contained tactical and long-term fixes, with special emphasis given to areas identified as most critical in driving customer success &/or retention. My recommendations also had to consider potential changes in both the technology & experience landscapes, which required constant alignment with project engineers from within the team, the design community, and the wider organisation.
Senior Ux Designer
At Tesco Retail I was responsible for the production of service blueprints, interaction models, research plans, & wireframes as well as generally supporting business initiatives and driving technical improvements for a business-critical supply chain system redesign.I was then tasked with defining the entire research & discovery phase for a linked business critical and entirely offline process. The initial goal was to provide the business with a deeper understanding of how the process was currently achieved and highlight friction points and expose opportunities. This required an evidence-led approach involving a time and motion study to effectively map out the entire process and provide actionable insight for short and long-term improvements. The research conclusions exposed huge opportunities for Tesco which generated a great deal of interest within senior leadership. In response to the increased interest, I started exploring tactical short to mid-term improvements to potentially release immediate value. In parallel, I created concepts and developed plans in alignment with wider business initiatives to enhance the future visions’ success.
