The game evolves throughout the day as players add to the board with their own instructions and alter routes and rules of play. Examples might include the basics such as “Go back 2 spaces” or “Roll again” as well as creative action commands like “Make a funny face at someone you don’t know.” “Recite a seven word poem about honey badgers.” “Sing a song you hated as a child.” Or “Pretend you are wearing a funny hat.” The Land of Parcheesopoly has toured to street events around the Twin Cities including Northern Spark, Open Streets Minneapolis, St. Paul Open Streets, and Friendly Streets Initiative block parties. The interactive, locally based model using block parties to bring civic engagement and community visioning processes into the streets where people live was successful and led to resident input being incorporated into city plans for Charles Ave. In 2013 Friendly Streets was invited to expand and partner with several other nearby neighborhood councils. I coordinated social media for Irrigate, an ArtPlace-funded initiative by Springboard for the Arts in partnership with Twin Cities LISC and the City of St. Paul which trained and mobilized artists in creative placemaking along the Central Corridor in St. Paul for the duration of light rail construction.
