Pursuing my BSc degree, majoring in Biotechnology, has managed to highlight which fields of biotechnology I would love to focus on and which ones I feel I am more suited for. I thoroughly enjoyed, and am very interested in, microbiology, specifically endophyte microbiology - this I discovered while interning at the Environmental Biotechnology Lab from August 2016 up until January 2018 in the Biotechnology Department of the University of the Western Cape, under the leadership if Dr M Keyster. While demonstrating for Chemistry, I worked under the leadership of Mrs Grové (Chief Technical Officer - Chemistry) and she helped improve my understanding of different concepts, materials and methods of explanation required to help the first years fully grasp the chemical concepts, this led to me taking on an even bigger role in the beginning of 2019, by helping Mrs Grové reorder and restock the practical laboratory for all the practicals.Due to all my work in the laboratory, I was offered the opportunity to join the postgraduate students when they did the HIRA chemical and laboratory safety course, which resulted in me completing the course and receiving my HIRA Chemical and Laboratory Safety Certificate.I am a hardworking individual with a fondness and natural ability to grasp and understand practical work; I worked exceptionally hard to get where I am today and had to endure and embrace the many hardships that were thrown my way. I am especially resilient and have an amazing support system that helped me throughout the lows. My circumstances are a big part of my motivation because they drive me to do the best that I can in order to overcome them. I use the challenges in my way to work harder and be in a better space.
