I get to help colleges and universities achieve greater relevance and organizational capability.Since 2019, I have served as Vice President for Marketing Leadership at RHB, a higher education consultancy, leading the firm’s practice in Institutional Marketing. I advise, write, and speak on institutional positioning, the intersection of strategic planning and marcomm, and organization design and development. I also counsel and coach chief marketing and communications officers to help them navigate strategy choices and accelerate progress toward their most important outcomes.Previously, I spent more than two decades in higher education administration with a focus on reputation and resource development and intra-organizational alignment, including 17 years at Indiana University in a variety of senior roles from campus-level vice chancellor to system-wide associate vice president.Additionally, I am co-author of the book What Makes a Strategic Plan ‘Strategic’? and co-editor and contributor to Inside Higher Ed’s “Call to Action” blog. I enjoy working directly with students and teach graduate courses in both strategic communications (MA) and higher education leadership and organizational studies (EdD).
