While completing my practical vocational training under the leadership of the esteemed Mr Herklaas Venter, I mainly specialised in criminal court practice. I did get some additional exposure in the civil department. The duties I was tasked with thus far comprise of the following:• Consulting with clients;• Appearing in court on a daily basis – I appeared in criminal courts all over the Free State, the maintenance court, children’s court, Tshepong court (which deal exclusively with protection orders) as well as civil courts;• Attending to unopposed motions such as default judgements and collection of debt proceedings;• Alternative dispute resolution – mediating and settling matters;• Attending to bail applications;• Attending to trials;• Drafting of several different pleadings.
