I worked as a food and beverage server at a busy seafood restaurant in Seattle, WA. The dining style was casual, but with high volume and large table sections and fast turnover. Less was required in terms of wine and spirits, and more in the area of Northwest Seafood and rustic cuisine. This position required organization and the capability of managing large volume through busy, sometimes intense, dinner and lunch rushes. Also utilized were communication and interpersonal skills with guests and back of house employees as well as cash handling.

As a food and beverage server my ultimate goal was to create a positive guest experience while dining in our restaurant. I was essentially a food and beverage sales-person, which required superior knowledge of food preparations, dietary restrictions and allergies, seafood sources, spirits, wine and everything in between. In addition to product knowledge, this position gave me an opportunity to perfect my customer service skill. I remained calm and accommodating to our guests in a sometimes chaotic, busy and hectic environment. Customer relations and the ability to talk to people comfortably and openly, while also reading them, was central to this role. Some other specific technical skills required for this position include money handling, properly ringing in orders, managing a full section with multiple orders, assisting teammates, and acting as a liaison between the chef and kitchen, my guests and management.
