Rocío Marisol Espinoza Chávez Email and Phone Number
I am a Ph.D. in chemistry from the State University of Campinas UNICAMP - Brazil, a M.S. from the same institution, and a B.S. in chemistry from the National University of Engineering UNI – Peru, with experience in the design, planning, development, synthesis, and optimization of bioactive compounds. Projects that I have been involved in Italy and Brazil cover medicinal chemistry topics concerning the development of #protacs and #smallmolecules directed to infectious diseases, working with Leishmaniasis and Chagas diseasesMy scientific background is in organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry, fields that I have been working for close to 8 years, “chasing” new chemical structures to increase Neglected Tropical Diseases pipeline with the commitment to contribute to anti-infective drug discovery and constantly learning about the drug discovery process with interest to apply the experience gained in making medicines where there is a need for new treatments.Additionally to my scientific career, motivated to alleviate the barriers of entry for Peruvian scientists in the scientific world and to inspire a new generation of “drug hunters”, I founded the initiatives “Drug Discovery Peru” and “Piridina.pe”, connecting with younger investigators and students interested in doing collaborative research in this area, constructing a valuable network that is increasing day by day.Science is about expecting unexpected scenarios, this is why I like to do it and why I pursue to motivate younger students to embrace it. We need diversity in science and not to forget to think outside the box to open doors to the unknown and to alleviate the different challenges that our world is going through.
